New Freeport Elementary School Groundbreaking Ceremony

The new Pre-Kindergarten to 1st grade campus will be built at the site of the Jane Long Elementary campus.

Last fall, the Brazosport Independent School Board requested and received suggestions and submissions from the community in selecting a name for the new school. Honoring the history and traditions of the Freeport area, the Board unanimously voted in January to name the newest elementary school Freeport Elementary School.

At the ceremony, Superintendent Danny Massey gave some of the history of the schools in Freeport to an audience of community members, parents, BISD staff and students who attended the ceremony. “The new Freeport Elementary School will honor the community’s rich history and will celebrate the lasting legacy of all former Freeport School students,” stated Massey.

This fall, all Freeport Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and 1st grade students will attend Fleming Elementary with all Freeport 2nd - 4th grade students attending Velasco. Doors are set to open at Freeport Elementary School in August 2018, to welcome new students in Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade. All 2nd through 4th grade students will attend Velasco Elementary School in the Freeport feeder pattern, with R.O’Hara Lanier Middle School continuing with 5th and 6th graders, Freeport Intermediate with the 7th and 8th graders and students finishing up 9th -12th grade at Brazosport High School.

Construction of new elementary schools for Roberts, Ogg and Brannen will be following in the next few years.
