Career Cruising is a planning and self-exploration program that helps students of all ages achieve their potential in school, career, and life. Users learn about their interests, skills, preferences and aspirations so they can explore the opportunities that are right for them.
As part of the Career Cruising program, BISD’s second grade students have been using Career Town in ccSpark!. This interactive piece of the program allows students to ‘save the day’ by learning more about themselves to help them explore various careers and career paths along the way. Earlier this school year, intermediate and some high school students completed the Matchmaker Interest Inventory and Learning Styles Assessments. The Matchmaker assessment matches students to careers based on their responses to questions. For each career presented to the student, there are multimedia profiles including job descriptions, working environments, interviews with practicing professionals, required educational trainings, expected earnings and links to related careers. Learning Styles Assessment helps users identify their preferred learning method and explains the impact this has when they are studying or learning new information. Career Cruising also provides concrete tips and techniques for effective learning based on students’ assessment results. This semester, Career Cruising’s Course Planner feature is being used to build 4-Year Plans for high school students.
